PELRAS Fall Regional Workshop (West)

October 26 @ 8:30 am 12:00 pm

Fall Regional Seminar: Managing Difficult Employees and Tackling Your Toughest Police Department Problems

Managing Difficult Employees

You all know the one!  The employee who pushes the envelope ever so slightly and all too frequently.  A poor attitude; negative comments; constant though minor rule infractions and the direct supervisor that has difficulty seeing the impact that it has on the rest of the employees.  The impact on your workforce of ignoring this marginal (bad!) employee is often overlooked but significant.  This topic will provide sound advice for identifying the issue, providing both guardrails and expectations for dealing with the issue; and implementing supports to ensure success.  Improving morale and productivity often result from elimination of this nettlesome problem and thus the effort is worth the hassle.

Tackling Your Toughest Police Department Problems

Managing Police Departments has become much more challenging due to manpower shortages in light of recruiting difficulties and increased retirements  during an era of increased scrutiny of police overlaid with compliance with Acts 57 and 59, dealing with Heart and Lung abuse scandals and resulting officers out of work and increased filing of workers’ compensation and disability pension claims. Join a panel of experts and Campbell Durrant attorneys to discuss how to increase recruitment in compliance with Act 57 and how to keep officers on the street by preventing Heart and Lung abuse, managing Act 59 claims and controlling workers’ compensation and disability pension claims.  Learn what has worked and what has not from seasoned professionals.  This presentation is suited for elected officials, municipal managers, police chiefs and emerging leaders and will include robust discussion of factors that are negatively impacting police departments and corrective strategies.
