The City of Harrisburg is seeking a highly motivated individual to fulfill the responsibilities of Crime Analyst in the Department of Public Safety, Bureau of Police. The Crime Analyst is a non-uniformed, administrative position that performs highly complex research to collect and process data of a confidential nature in the Bureau of Police. This position utilizes computer databases, record management systems and other resources to conduct research to provide statistical analysis and analytical reports on crimes, criminal activity, patterns and trends and information to support police investigations. This position is involved with criminal investigations, as well as crime-related community projects. The individual in this position is expected to be highly independent, to operate without clear guidelines/requests and to identify the appropriate analytical tool(s) for different scenarios. All products and information produced by the Crime Analyst are assumed to be technically accurate. Reports directly to the Police Commissioner. This is a management, FLSA-exempt position.
Applicants must possess a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Criminal Justice, Homeland Security or related field and have two (2) years of professional experience in receiving, gathering, organizing and disseminating criminal intelligence information within a state Fusion Center or have four (4) years of professional experience in receiving, gathering, organizing, and disseminating criminal intelligence information within a state Fusion Center and fifteen (15) college level credits in the aforementioned fields. Other equivalent combinations of experience and training which provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities will also be considered. Valid Pennsylvania Driver’s License, Class C, or equivalent is required. Must successfully pass a police level background investigation prior to employment.
The annual salary range is $45,000 to $55,000 (commensurate with experience and qualifications), plus an excellent benefits package.
