Ferguson Township, home to more than 19,000 residents and located close to downtown State College and The Pennsylvania State University in beautiful Centre County Pennsylvania, seeks a Director of Planning and Zoning to join our administrative team!

Reporting directly to the Township Manager, the Director of Planning and Zoning directs and administers the Township’s Planning, Zoning, and Code Enforcement programs in accordance with Township ordinances such as land use and zoning as well as applicable state and federal regulations. The Director plays a critical role in overseeing and managing planning and zoning activities throughout the Township and serves as the Township Zoning Officer.

The Director will be a strategic leader with a comprehensive knowledge of the physical, social, economic, and legal implications of local planning activities and the ability to integrate diverse planning projects with the overall objectives of the Township. This position requires a deep understanding of planning principles, zoning regulations, land use management, community development strategies, and the provisions established in Pennsylvania’s Municipalities Planning Code.

Candidate Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Urban or Community Planning, Architecture, Public Administration, Political Science, or a related field and a minimum of three years of experience in local planning or a related field in Pennsylvania; or
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Urban or Community Planning, Architecture, Public Administration, Political Science, or a related field and a minimum of five years of experience in local planning or a related field in Pennsylvania; and
  • Demonstrable working knowledge in applying the provisions of the Pennsylvania Municipalities Planning Code.
  • American Institute of Certified Planners certification or ability to obtain within one year of accepting employment in the position; must maintain for duration of position.
