Description:
Cultivating an inclusive and supportive space for community members and municipal staff is more vital now than ever. The League’s Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (DEIB) training helps local officials understand and address the diverse needs of their communities, fostering trust and improving relationships with constituents. It provides a starting point to building skills to better develop policies that foster greater inclusion and equity, ensuring fair treatment and opportunities for everyone – staff and constituents.
You will have the opportunity to reflect upon your experiences and apply the lessons in the modules in your own role.
The course is taught by Abe Amorós, Deputy Executive Director for Operations & Chief Diversity Officer at The League. He completed the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion certificate program at Cornell University and has a passion for sharing and supporting DEIB principles.
Audience: All municipal elected and appointed officials and staff
Topics:
- Overview of the evolution of inclusion
- Race Relations
- Microaggressions
- Implicit and Unconscious Biases
- Importance of Allies
At the end of the webinar, you can expect to be able to:
- Define terms often used in DEIB
- Set organizational and personal goals for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging
- Create a welcoming environment for both community members and municipal staff
- Recognize unconscious bias and how it affects that way that people perceive and react to others
