Tarentum Borough is seeking a motivated Water Systems Manager to lead operations at our water treatment plant and distribution system, with a willingness to train and develop the right individual into this leadership role.

Position: Water Systems Manager
Location: Tarentum Borough, Allegheny County, PA
Salary Range: $73,000 – $83,000 per year
Full-time Daylight Shift with on-call for emergencies as needed

Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily operation of the water treatment plant, including chemical feed systems, filtration, pumps, and monitoring equipment
- Supervise water system staff, including treatment plant operators and distribution personnel
- Direct installation, maintenance, and repair of water mains, valves, hydrants, curb stops, service lines, and meters
- Ensure compliance with all DEP reporting requirements, including MORs, CCR, water sampling, sanitary surveys, and emergency notifications
- Lead leak detection, hydrant flushing, valve exercising, and unaccounted-for-water reduction efforts
- Prepare and implement preventative maintenance programs, asset management, and capital improvement planning
- Respond to and lead emergency operations, including main breaks, plant alarms, and water quality concerns
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED; associate or bachelor’s degree in engineering,
environmental science, water technology, or related field preferred
- Minimum 3 years of experience in water treatment or water distribution, including 1+ years in a supervisory or management role
- Strong knowledge of surface water treatment processes, water chemistry, DEP regulations, and distribution system operations
- Experience with SCADA systems, filtration, chemical feed equipment, hydraulics, and plant mechanical systems
- Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage staff and coordinate complex operations
- Must have a valid PA driver’s license
- While experience in municipal water treatment is preferred, the Borough is open to candidates who may not meet every requirement but show strong technical aptitude, sound judgment, leadership potential, and a clear desire to build a long-term career in municipal water systems. We are prepared to support training, mentorship, and licensure progression for the right individual.
Special Requirements
- Must obtain PA DEP required licensing as appropriate for Water Treatment Plant and Distribution system.
Physical Demands
- Work includes outdoor labor in all weather, confined spaces, heavy lifting (up to 75 lbs), and emergency response readiness.
