Position Summary
Upper Darby Township is seeking a Fleet Service Manager to lead the maintenance and repair of Township vehicles and heavy equipment. This position oversees daily fleet operations, including planning, scheduling, supervising staff, and ensuring compliance with all safety and licensing requirements. The Fleet Service Manager provides technical guidance on difficult diagnostics and repairs, conducts equipment inspections, and ensures all work meets safety and quality standards.
Key duties include monitoring workflow, estimating labor and material needs, managing parts inventory, and maintaining accurate maintenance records. The position trains staff in repair methods, equipment use, and safety procedures, and may perform mechanical work during emergencies or peak workload periods. The role also contributes to setting operational goals and maintaining effective communication with staff and other Township departments.
The Fleet Service Manager is responsible for supervising and evaluating personnel, promoting a productive work environment, and utilizing automated fleet and fuel management systems. Strong leadership, technical skill, and the ability to work under pressure are essential.
Qualifications
A high school diploma and at least five (5) years of technical vehicle maintenance and repair experience are required. Candidates must hold a valid Pennsylvania CDL and possess ASE certifications in engine repair and performance, suspension and steering, and brakes, electrical, heating, and air conditioning. Preferred qualifications include leadership experience and familiarity with fleet and fuel management systems. Physical requirements include sitting, standing, walking, occasional lifting up to 40 pounds, and working around fuels, lubricants, solvents, and varied environmental conditions.
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–3:30 PM
Pay: $40.86/hour
