USDA Rural Development is now accepting applications for FY2027 funding. Public Bodies and Non-Profits located in municipalities with 20,000 population or less are invited to reach out to our staff to see if your infrastructure and/or equipment projects qualify.
USDA’s Community Facilities Program offers direct loans, loan guarantees, and grants to develop projects that will improve essential public services and facilities in rural communities.
Who can apply?
Applicants must have the legal authority to borrow and repay loans, to pledge security for loans, and to construct, operate, and maintain the facilities. They must also be financially sound and able to organize and manage the facility effectively.
Amount of Funding
Amount varies. Please note that all applications are considered as loan only first. The agency announces interest rates quarterly and as of July 1st, 2026, the interest rates 4.625%-4.75% (subject to change, fixed for life of loan after approval). Grant funding is highly competitive, awarded based on financial need, availability of funds, and are a maximum of $50,000, for equipment projects only.
Examples of projects include infrastructure and equipment for: (but not limited to)
- Healthcare Facilities
- Fire/Police/Ambulance
- Public Body Facilities (municipal buildings, courthouses, public works buildings)
- Libraries
- Childcare
- Education – Schools, Colleges, VoTechs
- Foodbanks
- Prisons and Prison Pre-release centers
- Other Non-Profits providing essential community services to local communities
