Opportunity
North Strabane Township, Washington County, Pennsylvania, is seeking an experienced, progressive, and collaborative leader to serve as its next Public Works Director.
This is an outstanding opportunity for an experienced public works professional to lead a respected department responsible for maintaining one of southwestern Pennsylvania’s fastest-growing communities. Reporting directly to the Township Manager, the Director oversees all operations of the Township’s Public Works Department, including roadway maintenance, stormwater infrastructure, fleet management, snow and ice control, capital improvement implementation, and day-to-day field operations.

About North Strabane Township
North Strabane Township is a thriving municipality in Washington County experiencing continued residential and commercial growth. The Public Works Department consists of approximately twelve employees and is responsible for roadway maintenance, stormwater infrastructure, snow and ice operations, fleet management, construction inspection, street excavation oversight, capital project implementation, and emergency response.
Position Summary
The Public Works Director serves as the administrative and operational leader of the Public Works Department and is responsible for planning, directing, coordinating, and supervising all departmental activities.
Key responsibilities include:
• Leading and supervising departmental personnel
• Preparing work schedules and assigning projects
• Managing the departmental budget
• Developing bid specifications and overseeing procurement
• Directing roadway, drainage, and infrastructure maintenance
• Planning and directing winter maintenance operations
• Managing fleet maintenance and equipment replacement
• Coordinating with engineers, contractors, utilities, and regulatory agencies
• Preparing reports for the Township Manager and Board of Supervisors
• Developing short- and long-range capital improvement plans
• Promoting safety, accountability, professionalism, and customer service
Desired Qualifications
• Progressive municipal public works leadership experience
• Experience with roadway maintenance, drainage, fleet operations, and winter maintenance
• Strong supervisory and employee development skills
• Budget and capital project management experience
• Knowledge of municipal purchasing and bidding
• Excellent communication skills
Minimum Qualifications:
• High school diploma (higher education preferred)
• Five years of progressively responsible public works experience
• Five years of supervisory experience
• Valid Pennsylvania driver’s license
• CDL preferred, not required
• APWA Public Works Certification (or ability to obtain) preferred
Compensation & Benefits
• Salary: $90,000-$105,000 DOQ
