In Case You Missed It – The Budget Includes a COLA for Municipal Police and Fire
The 2026/2027 budget signed last week includes a cost of living adjustment (COLA) for police officers and firefighters. Municipalities should begin paying the COLA with the first retirement benefit payment made on or after August 1, 2026. The policy provides reimbursement from the 2026 Special Ad Hoc Postretirement Adjustment Account which is established within the Municipal Pension Plan Fund. Municipalities must submit a certification to the Auditor General by April 1 of each year to receive reimbursement. Funding for reimbursements will come from interactive gaming revenues.
Please view the COLA language included in the Fiscal Code here.

Business Leaders Network Spotlight

When a home owners’ service line breaks immediate attention is imperative to avoid wasted water and ground pollution. The Service Line Program provides homeowners with a low cost alternative to expensive repairs, and 24/7/365 service when the unexpected pipe breaks in their yard or backs up into their basement. So not only do the homeowners in your community gain peace of mind, but they help preserve our water supply for future generations. Please contact Ashley Shiwarski at Ashley.Shiwarski@homeserveusa.com to learn more about this free program available for your municipality. You can visit our website here.
