The City of York will have seven new trees at Allen Field in celebration of Arbor Day, which falls on Friday, April 24th. The trees will be dedicated at 12:30 pm on that day. The tree planting will start at 8 am and go through the morning.
The City secured the seven trees from Rockleman Nursery with the help of donations by the Garden Club of York. Allen Field is located at N Tremont and Hay Streets. People are welcome to come early and participate or to simply attend the dedication.
Trees can reduce the erosion of topsoil by wind and water, cut heating and cooling costs, moderate the temperature, clean the air, produce oxygen, and provide habitat for wildlife. Trees in the City also increase property values, enhance the economic vitality of business areas, and beautify the community.
Because of the City’s care for its trees, York has been recognized as a Tree City USA for 42 consecutive years by the National Arbor Day Foundation.
