EITC Awareness Day Guide

On January 27, 2023, the country will celebrate the seventeenth annual EITC Awareness Day. This day is an effort by the IRS to encourage local governments, community organizations, and other stakeholders to bring attention to the EITC and opportunities for free tax filing services through VITA. Our team in YEF has worked hard to make participation even easier for you this year!

You can increase the number of individuals that receive the EITC by working with local partners to raise the visibility of the credit. We have drafted materials that you could use to promote the day. We’ve created a toolkit that includes draft social media posts, and data tables (featuring data on Statistics for Tax Returns with EITC By State and EITC Participation Rates by State).

Additionally, YEF has created a short tax time survey. The information from the survey will allow YEF to continue to tailor the support they provide to municipalities and allow them to highlight work that is going on throughout the country. Huge thanks to many of you who helped with their last ARPA and tax time survey.

The communications toolkit YEF has created for municipal leaders will help celebrate the day, connect with VITA partners, and raise the visibility of this critical tax credit for residents. In the YEF-created communications toolkit, you will find a template press release, a sample email to partners, a city proclamation template, and sample social media posts that can be tailored to meet your needs.
