Comcast Supports Ohio County, WV with 1200 Laptops and $30,000 in Grants

$30,000 in Internet Accelerator Grants given to North Wheeling Community Youth Center and Youth Services System

As part of Comcast’s 10-year anniversary of Internet Essentials, the largest broadband adoption program in the country, Comcast donated 850 laptops to the Ohio County School District, 250 laptops to the North Wheeling Community Youth Center and 100 laptops to Youth Services System in Wheeling, West Virginia. The computer donations and grant support also part of Project Up, Comcast’s comprehensive initiative to advance digital equity and help build futures of unlimited possibilities. Read more…

Lift Zone Opportunity Grants Benefit Low-Income Students and Families in Transitional Housing

Comcast Donates $100,000 to Community Partners

Community partners who support student and families in transitional housing in Centre, Dauphin, Lackawanna, and Allegheny counties will each receive $25,000 in Lift Zone opportunity grants. Shalom House in Harrisburg, the NEPA Youth Shelter in Scranton, the Centre County Youth Services Bureau in State College and HEARTH in Glenshaw are four of Comcast’s Lift Zone locations and will each receive a $25,000 grant to purchase computer equipment, make site improvements, host career workshops and fund staff training.

Comcast Donates More than $800,000 to Provide Career Development and Training Services for Thousands of People Through Goodwill® Career Center: Comcast Will also Provide Free WiFi through the Lift Zone Program

According to the World Economic Forum, by 2030, nine out of 10 jobs will require digital skills. Today, the National Skills Coalition estimates that one-third (31 percent) of U.S. workers still lack basic digital skills.

“Access to the internet offers a life-changing pathway for workers to get the skills they need to move up the economic ladder and prepare for the jobs of the future, but not everyone is capable of taking full advantage of the technology,” said Broderick Johnson, executive vice president, public policy and executive vice president, digital equity, at Comcast Corporation. “Greater internet adoption and increased digital skills will not only lead to higher paying jobs, but also make our country more competitive globally.”
