Salary Range: $95,000 – $120,000/year based on qualifications & experience

Kennett Township in beautiful Chester County, Pennsylvania is currently seeking an experienced professional to succeed the current Director of Planning and Zoning who is retiring. This is an exciting time to join the Kennett Township team as we update our SALDO and expect to update our Comprehensive Plan within the next two years. This hands-on management position reports directly to the Township Manager and collaborates closely with the other departments, the Planning Commission, the Zoning Hearing Board, Historical Commission, consultants, attorneys, and the public.

The Director of Planning and Zoning is responsible for coordinating and overseeing all zoning and land planning projects and activities, building inspections, and codes enforcement.  The position also serves as the Planning Administrator and the Floodplain Administrator; supervises the Zoning Officer/Permit Coordinator. A successful person in this role will be diplomatic, a good problem solver, motivated and visionary, and have a desire to mentor.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in land planning, public administration or an equivalent field /or/ previous experience, preferably with zoning and building code administration. Master’s degree preferred.
  • 5 – 10 years previous municipal experience; Pennsylvania specific preferred
  • AICP certification preferred
