Position Summary
New Garden Township, Chester County, PA, is seeking an experienced and professional department director to join the Township’s Management Team as Director of Community Development & Safety. This is a newly created hands-on leadership and management position that reports directly to the Township Manager and supports the following boards and committees for the Township: five (5) member Board of Supervisors, Planning Commission, and Zoning Hearing Board.
This position is responsible for all Township functions related to zoning, land development, building and rental inspections (residential and commercial), code enforcement, Fire Marshal programs, as well as all associated departmental administrative duties to include budget and performance management. Position requires strong project management, process improvement, and communication skills.
As a Department Director this position oversees a staff of four (4) (Permit Technician, Code Enforcement, Fire Marshal, and Building Code Official), with an opportunity to steward future growth of the department. The Director of Community Development & Safety also collaborates and coordinates with other department heads, staff, consultants, engineers, and attorneys as well as provides excellent customer service to the public.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Planning / Zoning or related field with at least five (5) years of progressively responsible professional experience and/or training is required.
- PA Certified Zoning Official (CZO) is highly desirable.
- Prior PA UCC certifications is highly desirable.
- Bilingual (Spanish) speaking ability is highly desirable.
- Prior military service considered a plus.
Expected salary hiring range is $90,000 to $110,000, dependent on qualifications and experience.
