THE POSITION OF: Communications Coordinator
DEPARTMENT/DIVISION: Office of the Managing Director

PAY RATE: $66,835.13 Annually

Position Summary

The Communications Coordinator establishes effective working relationships with the public and mass media on behalf of the City.  Responsible for writing press releases, manages public relations events, website and social media content.  The Coordinator also composes and disseminates media releases to increase public awareness and knowledge of the City’s services or recent developments. 

Typical job duties may include but are not limited to:

  • Develop effective and cohesive communications strategy to support City objectives across all City departments
  • Plan, write, and edit content for internal and external communications channels
  • Ensure communication messaging, corporate branding, and the organizations voice are consistent across all mediums and internal City departments
  • Writes content for City website
  • Assists in providing crisis management and emerging incidents
  • Cultivate an environment of alertness and readiness
  • Plan and coordinate press events, roundtables, seminars and press conferences
  • Conduct presentations at management events
  • Manage media inquiries, coordinate and prepare statements
  • Measure and evaluate online/print communications and media relations
  • Supervise individuals reports directly, or indirectly, to this position
    • Perform other duties as assigned

      Minimum Qualifications

      • Excellent written, verbal and editing skills
      • Proficiency with MS Outlook, Word, Excel and Power Point
      • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud Apps, such as Photoshop, Premiere Pro
      • Experience and knowledge in copywriting, editing and proofreading (attention to detail)
      • Portfolio with proven track record of successful communications samples, both written and multimedia
      • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or similar field
      • Video/Photo editing and photography experience preferred
      • Bilingual English/Spanish required
